Awareness about COVID-19 by Dr. Ila Verma

CoVID-19 or Corona Virus Infectious Disease 2019 or Novel Corona Virus Disease is an infectious respiratory disease. The microorganism that spreads this disease is SARS-CoV-2 or Novel Corona Virus, which started in China in 2019. The whole world has been in its grip for more than two years. The World Health Organization calls it a global epidemic or Pandemic. An epidemic is a disease that spreads rapidly and infects a large population. What is a Corona Virus? Corona means crown. Small spikes on the surface of the virus appear like a crown. Coronavirus spread earlier as Sars-cov(2002) and mars-cov (2012), but they remained confined to limited parts of the world and did not become a global pandemic.

CoVID-19 spreads through contact with saliva or other particles released while coughing or sneezing. Covering the nose and mouth with a good mask can also protect us and others from infection. The contaminated particles can also spread on a surface after coming out of the mouth or nose. How long the virus will stay on which surface depends on the surface type. If we touch our nose or mouth by touching a contaminated surface, we can also become infected. That's why we are being advised to wear good masks, wash our hands, and not touch the face frequently. It can take 1-14 (1-14) days from exposure to appearance symptoms. Many people have no symptoms despite infection. It is a respiratory disease that may damage the lungs. For those already suffering from any heart disease, diabetes or cancer, it can prove fatal. Many people have succumbed to it without any co-morbidity.

We have not checked the virus despite mass vaccination. However, the vaccination has helped to reduce the severity of the disease. More research is conducted to develop better medication and vaccines for the disease.
